May 25th

1922 – Died – Ignatz Peter SZULTA – Ignatz is my 3rd-great-grandfather on my father’s side. He was born 30 Jan 1849 in Bukowa Góra, SulÄ™czyno Parish, Kartuzy County, Pomorskie, Poland, a small parish near Gdansk. In 1870, he married Nepomuncema SYLDAKT before emigrating to Wisconsin in about 1881. He passed away in Milwaukee and is buried there at Holy Cross Cemetery.

May 26th

1770 – Died – Andreas UHL – Andreas is my wife’s 7th-great-grandfather on her father’s side. He was born in Rothenburg, Obdertauber, Bavaria. He married Elisabetha FABER in 1728. He passed away in Neipperg, Baden, Germany and is buried there.

May 27th

1879 – Born – Mary (DAKINS) SHANNON – Mary is my wife’s great-great-grandmother on her mother’s side. She was born in Dayton, Waupaca Co., Wisconsin. In 1899, she married George W SHANNON and had one child, Marie R SHANNON. Mary suddenly died in 1904 in Keene, Portage Co., Wisconsin. Little Marie was sent to live with Mary’s parents and George, it seems, went off to Colorado.

2006 – This is also our 4th wedding anniversary.

May 28th

1842 – Born – Mary Jane (LINT) DIETER – Mary Jane is my wife’s 3rd-great-grandmother on her father’s side. She was born in Ohio. She married Frederick DIETER in 1868 in Fox Hollow, Wisconsin. They had 12 children including her ancestor Emma DIETER. She passed away on 20 Oct 1913 at Fox Hollow and is buried at Emmanuel Cemetery in Richland Co., Wisconsin.

May 29th

1816 – Born – Nathaniel SHANNON – Nathaniel is my wife’s 3rd-great-grandfather on her father’s side. He was born in Gilmanton, Belknap Co., New Hampshire. He married Rosina ARNOLD in 1838. They had 8 children together, including the above-mentioned George W SHANNON. He passed away on 26 Oct 1878 in Stockton, Portage Co., Wisconsin and is buried nearby in Whiting.

May 16th

1842 – Born – John HUIZEL – John is my wife’s great-great-grandfather on her father’s side. He was born in Bohemia, Czechoslovakia. He married Barbara REINDL in about 1864 and they had 5 children, all of them before emigration to the US. He passed away on 19 Mar 1903 in Iowa and is buried at Bohemian Cemetery in Plymouth, Cerro Gordo Co., Iowa.

May 17th

1809 – Married – Constant Joseph LAURENT & Marie Josèphe BERO – Constant and Marie are my 4th-great-grandparents on my mother’s side. They were married at Piétrebais, Walloon Brabant, Wallonia, Belgium. Together, they had 4 children including my ancestor Jean-Baptiste LAURENT. They both passed away at Biez, Chaumont-Gistoux, Walloon Brabant, Belgium, Constant in 1841 and Marie in 1853.

May 18th

1848 – Born – Peter MUHM – Peter is my 3rd-great-grandfather on my mother’s side. He was born at Palatine, Montgomery Co., New York. He married Ida SCHAVANDIE in about 1870. They had 4 children born in Wisconsin. Peter passed away at 39 on 6 May 1888 in Langlade Co., Wisconsin. His wife lived almost 50 more years when she passed away in 1934.

May 19th

1872 – Died – Dorothea (COOK) MORAN – Dorothea is my wife’s 3rd-great-grandmother on her father’s side. She was born 8 May 1825 in Cork County, Ireland. In 1845 she married Robert MORAN. Together they had 9 children on their travels from Quebec, Canada to Wisconsin. Dorothea died in Grant Co., Wisconsin and is supposedly buried at Old Rock Church in Livingston, Grant Co., Wisconsin.

May 20th

1920 – Died – Olivine (ST. LOUIS) LAURENT – Olivine is my 3rd-great-grandmother on my mother’s side. She was born 17 Sep 1835 in Yamachiche, St. Maurice, Quebec, Canada. In 1857 she married Jean-Baptiste LAURENT (son of Constant and Marie above.) They had 9 children including my ancestor, Mary Philomene LAURENT. According to my notes, Olivine was the first school teacher in Phlox, Wisconsin. Note write up on the History of Outagamie County regarding the early days at Phlox, Wisconsin. The school is now torn down. Olivine passed away in Phlox, Langlade Co., Wisconsin and is buried at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in the nearby Norwood Township.

May 21st

1838 – Died – Lawrence MINK – Lawrence is my wife’s 5th-great-grandfather on her father’s side. He was born 8 Nov 1773 in Fredericktown, Maryland. He married Mary Elizabeth LOWRY in about 1795. He passed away in Preble Co., Ohio.

May 9th

1860 – Died – Mary (CRONIN) MCCANN – Mary is my 4th-great-grandmother of my father’s side. She was born about 1797 in Ireland. She married Thomas McCann and they had 4 children, including my ancestor Mary McCann. It’s assuming she passed away in Uptergrove, Ontario, Canada as did her husband before her in January.

1908 – Died – Margaret (SCHUMACHER) STEARNS – Margaret is my 3rd-great-grandmother on my father’s side. She was born 14 Sep 1838 in Württemberg, Germany. Her name has been written as Katherine Rosina Margaretha in her husband’s German passport. She married Georg Heinrich Stearns in about 1862 and had 4 children. They immigrated to Wisconsin in the late 1800s. Margaret is buried at Oakwood Cemetery in Weyauwga, Waupaca Co., Wisconsin.

May 10th

1675 – Died – Richard CUTTS – Richard is my wife’s 10th-great-grandfather on her mother’s side. He was born 23 Jun 1615 in Portsmouth, Rockingham Co., New Hampshire. His parents were both born in Somerset, England. He married Eleanor ALDERSEY in about 1649. He passed away at Portsmouth.

May 11th

1809 – Married – Phillipus VAN PARIJS & Anna JUNIS – Phillipus and Anna are my 5th-great-grandmother on my mother’s side. They were married in Hoofdplaat, Zeeland, Netherlands and had three children. Anna passed away in 1818 and Phillipus in 1832, both in the Netherlands.

May 12th

1725 – Born – Maria (TRUIJEN) VAN CRAYBECK – Maria is my 7th-great-grandmother of my mother’s side. She was born in Genk, Limburg, Belgium. She married Paulus van Craybeck in about 1748. She passed away on 24 Jan 1789 in Genk.

1824 – Married – Maximilien PIETTE & Victoria BOUCHER – Maximilien and Victoria are my wife’s 4th-great-grandparents on her mother’s side. They were married in Thorembais-les-Beguines, Brabant Wallon, Belgium. Together they had 9 children, including her ancestor Fulvie Adelaide PIETTE. They both passed away in Door Co., Wisconsin.

1871 – Died – William TONEY – William is my wife’s 4th-great-grandfather on her father’s side. He was born 2 May 1794 in Franklin Co., Virginia. He married Sarah KEENE in about 1809 and had 7 children. He passed away at Crawford Co., Wisconsin.

May 14th

1898 – Born – Madora (LAST) THIELKE – Madora is my great-grandmother on my mother’s side. She was born in Grafton, Ozaukee Co., Wisconsin, one of 16 children. She married Arthur THIELKE on 26 Jul 1919 in Port Washington, Ozaukee Co., Wisconsin and had 4 children. She passed away 10 Sep 1979 in Grafton and is buried there at St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery.

May 15th

1929 – Died – Charles Christopher MORAN – Charles is my wife’s great-great-grandfather on her father’s side. He was born about 23 Nov 1864 in Montfort, Grant Co., Wisconsin. He married Emma DIETER in about 1889. They had 6 children. Charles passed away at Tarver, Wisconsin and is buried at Tavera Cemetery in Richwood, Richland Co., Wisconsin.

Happy birthday to my grandmother, Mary Jane, and her twin brother, Tom!

April 28th

1941 – Died – Emma Jane FIRMENICH – Emma Jane is my great-great-grandmother on my father’s side. She was born on 23 Jun 1873 in Wrightstown, Brown Co., Wisconsin. She married Thomas CORRIGAN in 1892 and they had 9 children, including my great-grandfather, Maurice CORRIGAN. After Thomas died in 1915, she married twice more before her death. She died in Ashland, Ashland Co., Wisconsin and is buried there at St. Agnes Cemetery.

April 29th

1756 – Died – Laurence HENRY – Laurence is my 8th-great-grandfather on my father’s side. He was born about 1690 in Vaivre, Haute-Saône, France. He married Jacques GRANGIER in 1714. He passed away in Menoux, Haute-Saône, France.

April 30th

1866 – Born – Margaretha STEARNS – Born Barbara Margaretha Magdalena STEARNS, she is my great-great-grandmother on my father’s side. She was  born in Württemberg, Germany and after immigrating with her family to Wisconsin, she married Frank F BRAATZ in 1891. Together they had 5 children, including my great-grandmother, Agnes BRAATZ. She passed away in 1943 in Ashland, Wisconsin.

May 1st

1941 – Died – Emily M TROKA – Emily is my great-grandmother on my father’s side. She was born on 5 Jan 1896 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Joseph & Clara (SZULTA) TROKA. She married Joseph ZALEWSKI on 25 Jun 1919 and they had 3 children. Emily died suddenly of a stroke on May 1st, 1941 at only 45 years of age.

Weekly History: April 18th – 24th

April 18th

1892 – Married – Thomas J CORRIGAN & Emma Jane FIRMENICH – Thomas and Emma are my great-great-grandparents on my father’s side. They were married at Sanborn, Ashland Co., Wisconsin. This was Thomas’ second marriage as his first wife died in about 1890. Thomas and Emma had 9 children, including my great-grandfather, Maurice CORRIGAN. Thomas passed away just before their last child, Sadie, was born in 1915. Emma later re-married 2 more times before she died in 1941.

1999 – Died – Richard ZALEWSKI – Richard is my grandfather on my father’s side. He was born 9 Dec 1921 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Joseph & Emily (TROKA) ZALEWSKI. He married my grandmother, Mary Jane CORRIGAN, on 11 Oct 1947 in Milwaukee. He passed away in Cedarburg, Ozaukee Co., Wisconsin and is buried there at St. Francis-Borgia Cemetery. His death was one of the main reasons I got into genealogy in the first place.

April 19th

1678 – Born – Anna Maria LUDWIG – Anna Maria is my wife’s 8th-great-grandmother on her father’s side. She was born in Kurnbach, Baden, Germany. She married Johann Phillip NAST in 1703 and had 7 children. She passed away on 3 May 1748 at Kurnbach, Baden, Germany.

April 20th

1740 – Born – Nathaniel SHANNON – Nathaniel is my wife’s 6th-great-grandfather on her mother’s side. He was born in Portsmouth, Rockingham Co., New Hampshire to Nathaniel & Alice (FROST) SHANNON. He married Ann B CARD in February 1761. He passed away in September 1792 is Portsmouth.

1800 – Born – Antoine Joseph CALONNE – Antoine is my wife’s 4th-great-grandfather on her mother’s side. He was born in Grand-Leez, Namur, Belgium. He married Marie Eleanore Josephe ETIENNE in 1821. He passed away on 9 Dec 1870 in Grand-Leez.

1900 – Died – Charlotte STRASSMAN – Charlotte is my 3rd-great-grandmother on my mother’s side. She was born 20 Jul 1817 in Germany. She married Johann W G LAST sometime before 1850 in Germany before emigrating in 1857. She passed away at Grafton, Ozaukee Co., Wisconsin and is buried at Union Cemetery in Port Washington, Ozaukee Co., Wisconsin.

April 21st

1722 – Born – Thérèse DARD – Thérèse is my 7th-great-grandmother of my father’s side. She was born at Menoux, Haute-Saône, France. She married Pierre Francois QUINET in 1751 and had 7 children. She presumably passed away in France, as did her husband.

April 24th

1927 – Died – Johann THIELKE – Johann is my great-great-grandfather on my mother’s side. He was born 26 Oct 1843 in Schwerin, Mecklenburg, Germany. He immigrated with his family in about 1854. He married Wilomene C RATHKE in 1891 and had one child, Arthur. He passed away at Grafton, Ozaukee Co., Wisconsin and is buried there at St. Paul’s Cemetery.

1939 – Died – Anna A (LINDNER) ZALEWSKI – Anna is my great-great-grandmother on my father’s side. She was born 27 Nov 1865 in German Poland. She married Frank J ZALEWSKI in 1885 and emigrated to America in 1889, settling in Milwaukee. Frank and Anna had 9 children together. Anna passed away in Milwaukee at the age of 73 and is buried with her family at Holy Cross Cemetery in Milwaukee.

April 12th

1923 – Married – Maurice Earl CORRIGAN & Agnes Katherine BRAATZ – Maurice and Agnes are my great-grandparents on my father’s side. Maurice was born 28 Dec 1898 in Sanborn, Ashland Co., Wisconsin and Agnes was born 4 Feb 1903 in Mellen, Ashland Co., Wisconsin. They were married at Iron Mountain, Dickinson Co., Michigan and had 5 children. Maurice passed away in 1993 and Agnes in 1998. They are buried at St. Agnes Cemetery in Ashland, Wisconsin.

April 14th

1856 – Died – Jacobus Franciscus KREBBEKX – Jacobus is my 4th-great-grandfather on my mother’s side. He was born 1 Mar 1818 in Hoofdplaat, Zeeland, Netherlands. He married Maria Sophia SCHALLOIR in 1840 and together they had 2 children. Jacobus passed away at Hoofdplaat, Zeeland, Netherlands.

April 17th

1867 – Born – Frank F BRAATZ, Sr – Frank is my great-great-grandfather on my father’s side. He was born in Germany to Wilhelm & Maria (KLEGIN) BRAATZ before immigrating in about 1867. Frank married Margaret K STEARNS in 1891 and had 5 children, including my great-grandmother Agnes. Frank passed away on 10 Jul 1948 in Ashland, Wisconsin and is buried there at Mt. Hope Cemetery.

March 29th

1890 – Died – Maria (BRAATZ) KLEGIN – Maria is my 3rd-great-grandmother on my father’s side. She was born 15 Feb 1842 in Schoenwalde, Germany. I’m not sure which Schoenwalde, since there are a few, but I am working to narrow it down. She married Wilhelm BRAATZ in Germany and then emigrated to America in about 1868 with their first son, Frank BRAATZ. She is buried at Little Wolf Cemetery in Manawa, Waupaca Co., Wisconsin.

March 30th

1832 – Married – Johanna Peter FIRMENICH & Anna Marie VOISSEL – Johann and Anna are my 4th-great-grandparents on my mother’s side. They were married in Buervenich, Rheinland, Pruessen. Together, they had 6 children including my ancestor, Mathias FIRMENICH. Six of them were born in Prussia and only Charles was born in Wisconsin after they immigrated in 1847. Johann died in 1872 in Brown Co., Wisconsin and Anna probably died sometime before 1860 since that’s the last time she is in the census records.

April 1st

1829 – Born – Marie Desiree (LOOD) DEBROUX – Marie is my 3rd-great-grandmother on my mother’s side. She was born in Piétrebais, Walloon Brabant, Wallonia, Belgium. She married Jean Joseph Desire DEBROUX in 1854 and had one child, Victorie, before emigrating to Wisconsin in the 1850s. They were known better as Desire and Desiree in Wisconsin, as records and their headstones show. Desire passed away in 1912 and Desiree in 1919. They are buried together at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Norwood, Langlade Co., Wisconsin.

March 14th

1764 – Born – John Baptiste III GADIOU St. Louis – John is my 5th-great-grandfather on my mother’s side. He was born at Yamachiche, St. Maurice, Quebec, Canada. He married Marie-Catherine GIGNAC in 1790 and had 4 children. He passed away on 16 Mar 1836 at Yamachiche, St. Maurice, Quebec, Canada.

March 17th

1960 – Died – Angeline R ZALEWSKI – Angeline, also sometimes known as Amelia, is my great-grandaunt on my father’s side. She was born 6 Jul 1887 in Poland Germany. As with the Zalewski family, I’m not exactly sure where in Europe the family is from.  She immigrated to America with her parents in 1889 and settled in Milwaukee. She married Martin PIERZCHALSKI in 1912. She passed away in Milwaukee and is buried at Holy Cross Cemetery there.

March 7th

1888 – Born – William H LAST – William is my great-granduncle on my mother’s side. He was born in Grafton, Ozaukee Co., Wisconsin, the third child (of 16) of Charles and Augusta (LUEDTKE) LAST. He married Johann SCHMITZ in about 1913 and had two children. He passed away 10 Aug 1965 in Port Washington, Ozaukee Co., Wisconsin and is buried there at St. Mary’s Cemetery.

March 8th

1787 -Died – Anna Catherina CROX – Anna is my 6th-great-grandmother on my mother’s side. She was born 11 Jun 1857 in Genk, Limburg, Belgium. She married Wilhelmus van CRAYBECK in 1778 and had 4 children. She passed away at 30 years of age at Genk.

March 9th

1817 – Born – Claude-Françoise QUINET – Claude-Françoise, better known as Francesca, is my 4th-great-grandmother on my father’s side. She was born at Menoux, Département de Haute-Saône (Franche-Comté), France to Pierre-Jean & Marie-Françoise (GRANGIER) QUINET. She married William Henry THOMPSON in 1839 at Syracuse, Onondaga Co., New York. They later moved to Granville, Milwaukee Co., Wisconsin where they had 9 of their 10 children. The last child was born in Morrison, Brown Co., Wisconsin. Francesca passed away on 31 Jan 1899 at Wrightstown, Brown Co., Wisconsin and is buried there at St. Paul’s Cemetery. A few years ago, we tracked her final resting place down and I did a post on it.

February 22

1890 – Died – William Henry THOMPSON – William is my 4th-great-grandfather on my father’s side. Unfortunately, I’m not exactly sure where and when he was born. The census and other records span from 1810 to 1816 and mention England, Ireland, and Scotland. He married Francis QUINET in 1839 and had 10 children. He passed away in Wrightstown, Brown Co., Wisconsin and is buried there at St. Paul’s Cemetery.

February 23

1831 – Born – Herman RATHKE – Herman is my 3rd-great-grandfather on my mother’s side. He was born in Germany and married Fredericke C HENKE. They had 3 children in Germany before immigrating to Wisconsin. Herman passed away on 9 Feb 1898 and is buried at Union Cemetery in Port Washington, Ozaukee Co., Wisconsin.

February 25

1632 – Married – Herman van CREIJBECK & Joanna PANSARS – Herman and Joanna are my 10th-great-grandparents on my mother’s side. They were both born in 1610 in Belgium. In 1646, they had a baby boy, Nicolaes van CRAYBECK, my ancestor. Herman passed away in 1649 and Joanna in 1653, which makes me wonder where Nicolaes grew up.

1883 – Married – Carl F H LAST & Augusta Johanna Wilkelumire LUEDTKE – Carl and Augusta are my great-great-grandparents on my mother’s side. They were married in Milwaukee Co., Wisconsin after immigrating with their families from Prussia. Together, Carl and Augusta had a whopping 16 children. Carl passed away in 1926, but Augusta lived to be 100-years-old and passed away in 1963.

February 27

1945 – Died – Marianna ZALEWSKI – Marianna is my great-grandaunt on my father’s side. Her birth location and dates differ depending on the record, though tracking this information could help me track the ZALEWSKI family. The dates I have are: March 1890 in Poland/Germany; 22 Mar 1891 in Baltimore; Maryland, 22 Mar 1891 in Ohio; and 1891 in Wisconsin. Since I do have a record of the ZALEWSKI family arriving in Baltimore in 1889 with no mention of Marianna, I can cancel out the Poland/Germany option. They were first found in Milwaukee in the 1892 city directory, so all of the other options still work. Marianna married Frank GIERSZEWSKI (before changing it to GIERSCH) in 1913 and passed away in 1945 in Milwaukee. She is buried with her husband at Holy Cross Cemetery in Milwaukee.

February 9th

1898 – Died – Herman RATHKE – Herman is my 3rd-great-grandfather on my mother’s side. He was born 23 Feb 1831 in Germany and immigrated with his family to Wisconsin in 1887. He passed away in Grafton, Ozaukee Co., Wisconsin and is buried at Union Cemetery in Port Washington, Ozaukee Co., Wisconsin.

February 11th

1674 – Born – Petrus van CRAYBECK – Petrus is my 8th-great-grandfather on my mother’s side. He was born in Kuringen, Belgium. He married Elisabeth BROUCKX in 1707. He passed away sometime before 1745 at Genk, Limburg, Belgium.

1867 – Married – Mathias Balthazar FIRMENICH & Paulina Henrietta THOMPSON – Mathias & Paulina are my 3rd-great-grandparents on my father’s side. They were married at Holland, Brown Co., Wisconsin and together had 13 children including my great-great-grandmother, Emma Jane FIRMENICH. Their marriage ended in 1910 when Paulina passed away.

February 12th

1779 – Died – Jean Claude MARIZOT – Jean Claude is my 7th-great-grandfather on my father’s side. He was born about 1720 in Contréglise, Haute-Saône, France. He married Thérèse DARD in 1751. He passed away at Contréglise, Haute-Saône, France.

February 13th

1811 – Married – Pierre-Jean QUINET & Marie-Françoise GRANGIER – Pierre and Marie are my 5th-great-grandparents on my father’s side. They were married at Menoux, Département de Haute-Saône (Franche-Comté), France and later immigrated to Wisconsin with their family. They had 9 children including my ancestor, Claude-Françoise (Francesca) QUINET. I am able to last track them to Fredonia, Ozaukee Co., Wisconsin in the 1860 census and then I can no longer find them. I’m assuming they passed away are buried in the Ozaukee County area, but have yet to locate their headstones.

1899 – Died – Henry Peter THIELKE – Henry is my 3rd-great-grandfather on my mother’s side. He was born October 1813 in Mecklenberg, Germany. He married Marie SPECHT sometime before 1840 in Germany. He and his family immigrated to Wisconsin and settled in the Grafton area. He passed away in Grafton, Ozaukee Co., Wisconsin and is buried at Union Cemetery in Port Washington, Ozaukee Co., Wisconsin.
