• Notes

  She had been a schoolteacher in Canada before her marriage. Last name also spelled Masseau. Birth date possibly 1814. Occupation: From The Land of the Fox: "Des Anges was a school teacher in her native Canada before her marriage and, since she could speak only French, she took over the education of all her 12 children in French. She bakes in a large outdoor oven, in which a roaring fire was made and then sealed after the loaves of dough were popped in by means of a long, handled shovel." Died: At the time of Marie's death she had been living with her son Rev. Philip St. Louis in Green Bay for a couple of years and then they moved to Florence where he was pastor at Immaculate Conception Church. She died only a couple of days after they arrived in Florence.
