Notes - Joseph F Zalewski served in the US Army Infantry during America's involvement in World War I (1917-1918). He fought with the Allied Expeditionary Forces in France during several major battles (according to his sister, Mary (Zalewski) Giersch). Unfortunately, his military records were destroyed in a fire in 1973 at the National Personnel Records Center - St Louis, Missouri (according to a reply to a 1994 inquiry submitted by Michael Rynka - the grandson of Mary (Zalewski) Giersch). After the war, Joseph returned to Milwaukee where he served with distinction on that city's municipal police force until his retirement.
He was a Milwaukee City Police Officer for 33 years.
