More comments on Augusta Litke Last. I've been trying to connect John Litka and wife Franciska Litka to our Joseph. This John appears on the 1880 U. S. Census for Cook County, IL. His dau, Augusta Litka, born Poland abt 1876. Probably not connected to your Augusta, b. 1863, but the names are nearly identical to the family of Joseph Litke.

I have been working on Litke Family genealogy for about 30 years. I am very interested in your Augusta Litke Last. The name "Augusta" was used several times in the family tree. Many of them lived well into their 90s. I know they came from Poland, but I am not certain exactly where. They settled in McLeod County, Minnesota about 1874. Originally sent to Detroit c. 1873.

And what do you know. I found their marriage certificate on the Wisconsin Historical Society website today. Tried a different county. We'll see if it has any useful information when it arrives.

Yeah, I'm never really sure how to spell that name. I've seen it so many different ways. (LUEDTKE, LITKE, LUDKE, LUDTKE, etc)

Brian, my sister-in-law's maiden name is LUDKE (original spelling LUEDTCKE - meaning "little people"), and her ancestors came from Prussia, also: Stettin (German spelling; I can't remember the Polish spelling).

Anyway, I'll ask her if your ancestor's name sounds familiar!
